Brazil captain Neymar has admitted that PSG paid over the odds when they signed him from Barcelona last summer.
Neymar became the world’s most expensive footballer when PSG activated a £198million release clause in his contract with Barca. He enjoyed an impressive debut season in France — scoring 19 goals and providing 13 assists in 20 Ligue 1 games — but he does not believe that his performance have been able to justify his price tag.
I’m not proud of the transfer fee, nor of the fact I’m the most expensive player ever,’ he told spox.com. ‘That’s just money and nothing else. I cannot help it. Personally, I would have paid less for myself.’
Neymar broke his right foot in February but is fit again and ready to lead Brazil’s bid for global glory at Russia 2018.
