New Manchester United Fred was banned for Doping by FIFA in 2015.
This is after testing positive for hydrochlorothiazide at the Copa Americas with Brazil.,Fred blamed the masking agent on medication he was taking for headaches he suffered on airplanes, he was handed a retrospective ban by FIFA.
Former Shakhtar Donetsk boss Mircea Lucescu says that this is what changed Fred’s career.
“Something happened to him there and even today I still don’t know exactly the cause,” Lucescu admits. “It was something out of our control.
“During the period he did not play, he continued to train professionally with other players and his behaviour was perfect. He didn’t need anything to improve his performance. He was already running good and recovering fast. It was something inexplicable.”
Shakhtar stood by Fred and repaying his club’s faith, the Brazilian signed a five-year deal in 2016 which has paid off by his record-breaking move to Manchester united.
