Why Maurizio Sarri could reject Blues offer

The Italian is the clear front-runner to replace Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge this summer after a below par season in west London.

Sarri left Napoli last week after guiding the club to a second-place finish in Serie A, which has only fuelled the rumours of a Chelsea move.

However, reports of Zenit wanting to lure the coach to Russia also refuse to go away.

And according to Amoyal, Sarri could quite easily opt to reject a Chelsea offer in order to replace Roberto Mancini at the Russian Premier League outfit.

“I get why everyone tells me ‘why would he go to Zenit?’” he told the Calcioland Podcast.

“But he’s a very peculiar guy. This isn’t your average coach.

“I wouldn’t assume it’s a slam dunk he’ll pick Chelsea over Zenit – they want to give him a really nice financial package.”

But Amoyal admitted Sarri would be a huge favourite among Chelsea fans, due to his attractive style of play.

“Sarri is like the wet dream of anyone who has a manager who plays defensive and boring football,” he added.

“You watch Sarri, the way Napoli plays and 91 points – it’s like ‘oh my god, this is so exciting’, so different to what we have.

“Tactically I think Sarri is as good as it gets.

“His teams have such a distinct style. The high-pressure, the tight lines, quick passing triangles.

“Sarri really is the heir to Arrigo Sacchi.”
