Top-Rated Congolese Defender Calls Time on 10-Year KPL Career

Bandari FC captain Felly Mulumba Tshiyoyo has ditched the KPL outfit and joined Zimbabwean side, FC Platinum, on a two-year deal.

FC Platinum formerly known as Mimosa FC until January 2011 when it changed its name, plays in the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League.

The club has three CAF Champions League appearances and one CAF Confederation Cup appearance under its name.

The 29-year-old joined the Dockers in 2016 from Sofapaka where he had spent four years as a regular starter.

Posta Rangers, too, have a special place in the making of Mulumba’s history as this was the first Kenyan club that accepted him after failed trials with AFC Leopards.

New in Kenya, and equipped with a barely nonexistent knowledge in English or any local dialect, his is a story from Kananga, Zaire where the five feet, eleven in Central defender was born.

Moving from an Academy run by the Congolese Railway company, he joined AS Bagole in 2005 before moving to St. Luc in 2006 where he would spend the next four years horning his skills.

Achievements

Being named the Best Defender of the year in 2018 perhaps marked the epitome of his achievements as a player who in 2010 was still trying to make it in Zaire. He also guided Bandari to the SportPesa Shield Cup in 2019.

Higher risks undoubtedly equals higher returns. This was the case with Mulumba who since coming into the country on refugee status in 2010 has been on an upward trajectory.

The year 2013 saw Sofapaka crowned the Charity Cup champions with Mulumba deep in the equation. In 2014 he led the Elly Kalekwa-owned Batoto Ba Mungu to Charity Cup and GoTv Shield Cup victories.

This is a man with a golden touch. Changing fortunes of clubs he played in, except of course Rangers where he did not stay long enough to make an impact.

FC Platinum will be hoping he carries his charm, leadership and luck into the team.
