Scare as School of Hippos is Spotted in Murang’a

A pod of hippopotamus was on the wee hours of Wednesday morning spotted in Githanji Estate, Kenol, in Murang’a County.

Locals who spoke to Opera News said that they were not sure of the number of hippos that were on the loose as they had been spotted in different parts of the region.

They also said that the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) was yet to assist them three hours after they reported the matter.

“I was walking out of my house when I saw the hippo running towards the opposite direction and when it saw me, it stopped for some seconds before it proceeded with its journey,” Mr Caleb Kimani said.

Ms Janet Muthoni, another local, said that she was alerted by neighbours that the wild-animal was making rounds in her farm.

“I was in the house when a neighbour called me and informed me that a hippo was roaming inside my farm,” Ms Muthoni stated.

Incidents of hippos leaving their habitats and making rounds within various parts in Murang’a county have been on the increase in the recent past.
