Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Ndungu Waititu has been impeached.
The Senators voted 28 for, 11 against, 28 for, 11 against and 28 for and 11 against the three grounds for his impeachment.
In his impeachment motion by the Kiambu County Government, Waititu was accused of corruption, gross violation of the Constitution, Public Finance Management Act and County Government Act.
The Governor was impeached by some 63 Members of County Assembly on December 19 in a process that he would challenge.
The Governor cast doubts on the numbers involved in his impeachment, saying they were cooked as he had taken a section of the MCAs to a retreat ostensibly to scuttle the impeachment process.
The first-time Governor had a troublesome second day fighting for his seat at the Senate where a section of the legislators had publicly declared they wanted him out.
Tuesday, January, 28, the House adjourned after efforts by efforts by Kipchumba Murkomen to have an 11-member Senate Committee substantiate the charges levelled against Waititu flopped.
The Governor was charged in 2019 with corruption-related offences and barred from accessing his office.
What the Senators Said
Sam Ongeri: We are not here to listen to feeble stories that there was no quorum in Kiambu County Assembly when they voted to impeach the governor. Forcing a widow, not even a married woman, to surrender her land is the worse sin ever.

Senator Johnson Sakaja: Beyond being logical, let us be ethical. Let it be remembered that the Senate of the Republic of Kenya stood with Kenyans and made the right decision.

Senator Halakhe: Most of the things the governor has been accused of are impeachable. We need to raise the bar as a country and ensure when wrongs are done people pay for them. Our duty is oversight #Waititu ^MK pic.twitter.com/rbBqrAhvub
