Mason Greenwood came off the bench to score an equalizer for Manchester United in a 1-1 draw against Everton at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
A Victor Lindelof first-half own goal had given Everton the lead before Greenwood came off the bench to draw United level with an equalizer 13 minutes from time.
Both teams started the game strongly visibly in search of an early breakthrough. Marcus Rashford and Daniel James came close for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’ charges while Everton chances fell to Richarlison, Bernard, Holgate and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
United slowly grew into the game creating a couple of chances which they didn’t take. They failed to make their dominance count and they were made to pay in the 36th minute when the Toffees went ahead through A Victor Lindelof’s own goal. The Swiss defender deflected a corner delivery into his own net. Everton took a one-goal lead to the break.
The hosts started strongly after the interval in search of goals. Fred and Marcus Rashford both came close to leveling matters early on but poor finishing from the Red Devils let them down. Luke Shaw forced a save from Jordan Pickford before Daniel James saw his effort ricochet off Jesse Lingard.
United were slowly growing desperate as the clock ticked and opted to go for some unfruitful long-range attempts which were blocked by Everton defenders. The Toffees, on the other hand, opted to sit back and try to beat the hosts on the break.
Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made a change in the 65th minute taking off injured Jesse Lingard for rookie forward Mason Greenwood. It proved to be a match-changing substitution as the young Englishman grabbed the equalizer in the 77th minute. He controlled a Daniel James pass before firing past Pickford.
United went all out in search of a second and on two instances they were nearly exposed at the back as the Toffees proved to be dangerous on the counter. None of the sides could find the winner and the game ended even.
