Waititu’s CEC Cries Out Over Looming Impeachment

Kiambu County Executive for Youth Affairs, Sports, and Communication, Karungo wa Thang’wa, has termed a motion of his impeachment tabled at the Kiambu County Assembly as an ill-motivated move by his enemies to settle political differences.

In a press statement, the former journalist acknowledged that he was aware of his looming removal from office, although no formal communication has been made to him by Kiambu MCAs yet.

Thang’wa further pleaded with the County Assembly to give him a proper platform to defend himself against accusations levelled against him in the motion, including dishonouring procurement regulations and poor stewardship of County programs.

The close ally of Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu is also accused of acts of insubordination towards acting governor James Nyoro.

As a demonstration of his commitment to accountability and transparency, the member of the Kiambu County Executive Committee demanded that his impeachment hearing be publicly conducted.

“I welcome all media houses to provide live coverage if and when I appear before the committee,” Thang’wa stated.

“It is my expectation that all sessions will be conducted in full glare of the public as required by law,” he added, inviting his former professional colleagues to seek clarification from him through media interviews.

Regarding claims that he has been running Kiambu County projects such as the Jijenge Fund and the Kiambu Super Cup down, Thang’wa promised to furnish residents of Kiambu County with all the relevant information as to the factors that have contributed to the stalling of these initiatives.

Thang’wa’s ouster notice was issued by nominated MCA Margaret Njeri on Wednesday.

In his Thursday response, Thang’wa advised Kiambu MCAs to resist from being used as platforms to settle political scores, and focus on uplifting local youth through objective and honest dealings.
