Desperate times they say call for desperate measures but to John Wambua, the husband to Mariam Kighenda, the woman who drowned while in the company of her daughter at the Likoni Ferry, his principles cannot be compromised even if it means helping him retrieve the missing bodies of his loved ones.

There have been calls for Mr. Wambua to seek for the services of a witchdoctor in a bid to appease the ancestors as a way to help him recover the bodies of his family members.

Wambua has however stood firm and remained steadfast having rejected such calls arguing that he is a Christian and as such, he will stick to his biblical teachings and values.

“I am a staunch Christian and my wife was also a staunch Christian, so we cannot go that way,” said Wambua.

Efforts to retrieve the body of Miriam and that of her daughter Amanda Mutheu have proved futile despite the involvement of multi-agency teams led by the Kenya Navy.

The use of technology in the search has also not bore any fruits.

Details of the ongoing operation remain scanty following a decision by the government to bar the media from the area of operation having declared the whole rescue effort a Military Operation.

Despite the fading hopes, Wambua’s family remain optimistic that the bodies of their loved ones will be recovered following the latest efforts by different agencies.

“We are still hopeful that bodies will be found and they will be given to us for burial. This is all we pray for so as to have closure,” said Mbati as quoted by K24 Digital.

Meanwhile, Miriam’s family has been holding prayers at the Mbaraki Wharf even as reports that the search of the bodies could be brought to a halt continue to intensify.
