Matchday five in the Kenya Premier League produced moments to savor and a total of 15 goals which is the second-highest scoring round this season. Gor Mahia sits pretty at the top having won all their matches while Chemelil Sugar is still stuck at the bottom without a single point.

Below, we look at the four main talking points from Matchday five in the Kenyan Top-flight football league.

Worrying Times for Sony Sugar

Sony Sugar failed to show up for their home leg match against AFC Leopards on Saturday due to financial constraints facing the club at the moment. With the league’s sponsor Sportpesa officially out of business, Kenyan football clubs have been hard hit and Sony Sugar is not the only one.

They lost a lot of good players over the transfer window and are having to rely on youngsters who are not quite ready yet. This could be a tough season for the Sugarmen that could end in relegation.

End of the road for Bandari

After an impressive start to the season, Bandari United’s unbeaten start was cruelly ended in the last minutes of their clash with Sofapaka. Bandari will, however, feel hard done by a decision to rule out Wycliffe Ochomo’s late goal for offside especially as replays proved otherwise.

It’s not all doom and gloom for Bernard Mwalala’s side who finished second last season since there is still a long way to go before the season is over.

Tusker Impressive Yet Again

Robert Matano’s Tusker FC made it three wins on the bounce with a relatively comfortable 3-1 win away to Allan wanga’s Kakamega Hoemboyz. Rarely do Homeboyz lose at home which speaks volumes on Tusker’s quality this season.

The Brewers are now only two points off the top of the table despite starting the season with a 5-2 thumping at the hands of defending Champions Gor Mahia.

Not yet for Wazito

Another game for Wazito and yet another result that will put doubts into their title credentials. This time, the moneybags needed a late equalizer to draw 2-2 with Salim Ali’s Mathare United at the Moi International Sports Center Kasarani.

The team is a shambles defensively and in attack, Wazito is having to heavily rely on the excellent Victor Ndinya for some spark. Safe to say that Wazito is not yet a ‘big team’ in the league.
