ODM candidate in the upcoming Kibra by-election, Imran Okoth’s campaigns, turned chaotic on Monday after a section of youth accompanying him descended on each other.

In a video shared online, the rowdy youth, who were campaigning along one of the dusty inroads in the constituency, are seen pulling each other as Imran watches.

At one time, the ODM candidate was caught up in the fracas forcing his security personnel to shield him from the rowdy group throwing kicks and blows at each other.

It was not yet clear what caused the misunderstanding that turned chaotic. The ODM candidate, who was entangled in the chaos, was moving from door to door in his early Monday campaigns.

The fracas comes at a time when the two contenders for the Kibra parliamentary seat (Jubilee and ODM) appear locked in a supremacy battle.

On Wednesday last week, supporters of Jubilee candidate, McDonald Mariga, and Imran were captured on camera leading a campaign to deface each other’s posters within the constituency.

In a retaliatory move, another man, who is perceived to be Mariga’s fan, was captured overlaying Mariga’s poster on Imran’s.

This transpired even as the former footballer and his other competitors, including ANC’s Eliud Owalo and Ford Kenya’s Khamisi Butichi called for peaceful campaigns.

“We don’t have to fight or harass one another to remain relevant. Let us just do peaceful campaigns and talk to the people of Kibra who are our bosses,” noted Mariga.

“I know there are people who benefit from confusion and they are eyeing Kibra as their next avenue for business. It will not happen because we will not allow chaos to take place in this place,” stated Butichi on his part

The by-election to succeed Ken Okoth, who succumbed to cancer in July, will take place on November 7, 2019, in a race that has attracted 26 aspirants.
