Embakasi East MP, Babu Owino, has hit out at Jubilee candidate in Kibra constituency by-election, MacDonald Mariga, just a day after the former footballer was cleared by IEBC to vie.

Speaking in Kibra, on Tuesday, while campaigning for the ODM candidate, the tough-talking MP urged Mariga to choose between the ‘wife’ of the late Ken Okoth, MCA Anne Thumbi, or Kibra seat.

Owino alleged that Mariga couldn’t just ‘steal’ Okoth’s lover then come back to claim the seat left vacant by the late MP.

This is the lady who had a baby with the late Hon. Ken Okoth. Mariga must choose between the lady or the seat, hauwezi dharau the late Ken by taking both his seat and his wife. Choose one Omwami, tweeted Owino on Tuesday.

He added that Mariga’s act was a sign of disrespect to the people of Kibra hence should not be elected as the next MP.

Owino’s sentiments were sparked by MCA Anne, who has a son with the late Kibra MP, being seen accompanying Mariga on more than one occasion.

Thumbi was spotted sitting next to Mariga during the verification which ended in Mariga being blocked from vying.

The lady came to limelight after the death of Okoth when she blocked the late MP’s internment, saying she had been locked out of preparations for his final send-off.

She had demanded a DNA test be done, which later confirmed Okoth sired her son.

Her prominence during Mariga’s appearance before the IEBC raised many eyebrows, given that Okoth’s brother, Imran is also in the race on an ODM ticket.

Thumbi’s act, however, clearly showed where her loyalty lies between party affiliation and ‘kinship’ with the late parliamentarian’s family.
