Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier has denied reports that the club has abandoned Curtis Wekesa who needs crucial surgery after picking an injury and rupturing his ACL.

Wekesa, who joined the Champions in July, picked up the injury while playing for Nairobi Stima in a National Super League encounter against Shabana FC. The player had claimed Gor Mahia declined to pay for his treatment and was calling on well-wishers to assists him with funds.

In an exclusive interview with Opera News, Rachier played down those claims and insisted claimed the club will cater for his hospital bill.

“We have referred the player to Dr. Mutiso at Nairobi Hospital so that his injury can be treated comprehensively. Therefore, there is no need for a fundraiser because the club takes care of the players’ medical needs. He initially informed us that his parents had medical cover sufficient to treat him. That is why we let him pursue his preferred health care,” Rachier said.

Wekesa was one of the most sought after players in the just concluded transfer window. He has previously played for Sony Sugar and is a regular for the National under 23 team.
