We are already counted in the bible, enumerators chased away

A census enumerator

Enumerators in Kitui were this week left shocked after some adamant locals ganged up to chase them away from their homes during the ongoing National census exercise.

Two residents from the region have already been apprehended by the police after they refused to engage in the exercise.

While justifying their points, the locals argued that they had already been “counted in the bible” hence did not require to be enumerated by the government.

Elsewhere, three other people were on Tuesday arrested in Tharaka Nithi after they declined to have their information recorded for census purposes.

One of the lawbreakers is said to have threatened to hack the enumerators in protest of the procedure.

On Monday, two chiefs were put behind bars after it was discovered that they had helped in the manipulation of census data. The two were alleged to have assisted in double registration of residents in Mandera County.

Police remarked that the culprits remained in custody awaiting charges in court.

The law enforcers further claimed that the act was a plan by politicians to raise population numbers for political areas that had fewer people.
