Wazito FC thrashed fellow Kenya Premier League side Mathare United 4-1 in a pre-season friendly played on Thursday morning.

Wazito went ahead with the first move of the match in the first few seconds. A free-flowing move saw Victor Ali Abondo release Joe Waithera on the left and the winger laid on a perfect pass to Derrick Onyango who cooly placed the ball into the back of the net. Mathare United had barely had a touch of the ball.

Wazito were clearly the better side early on and added to their advantage just 10 minutes later. Former Gor Mahia defender Karim Nizigiyimana started the move by switching the ball on to the left for Joe Waithera. Just as he did for the first goal, Waithera laid the ball to Derrick Onyango who again placed the ball past the onrushing Mathare United keeper.

The second half saw Wazito make 8 changes but their dominance was unchanged. They added a third after a mistake from the Slum boys defense afforded Micheal Oduor a chance to run at goal. The new signing from Sofapaka comfortably passed the ball to Derrick Otanga who had the easy task of tapping the ball into the net.

Derrick Otanga added to Mathare’s misery with a brilliant lob over the keeper to make it 4-0 midway through the second half. The only negative from a very impressive performance from Wazito was the sending off to defender Dan Owino who picked up two yellow cards.

Daniel Lual got the consolation for Mathare with a minute left to play after confusion from the Wazito backline allowed him space to slot the ball into an empty net.
