Copa U20: St. Anthony’s overcome Olbolsat in final group tie

St. Anthony’s Boys Kitale made it three wins in Copa U20 Pool A after overcoming Olbolsat in a match played at Kisumu Boys High School on Thursday morning.

Kenya U17 midfielder Issa Lumumba scored the lone goal of the match in the 12th minute. Both teams progress to the semis.

The Saints began strongly and in the 12th minute, they went ahead through In-form Issa Lumumba after a beautiful interchange of passes involving Tyson Kapchanga and Answar Shamuni. Kapchanga nearly made it 2-0 moments later but his ferocious drive was saved by Olbolsat keeper, Robert Arnold.

The Rift Valley side continued dominating proceedings with Lumumba, Daniel Musamali and Daniel Odhiambo in midfield running the show. Olbolsat tried to counter their dominance using the long balls approach that yielded no fruits as Muchina Cedric and Christopher Raila at the heart of Saints ball cleared all the danger.

Olbolsat showed improvement after the interval. Saints keeper Issa Emuria who was untested in the first half was forced to pull a fantastic save in the 52nd minute to deny Vincent Onsongo from a freekick.

Olbolsat continued to press for an equalizer and were particularly dangerous on the counter-attack as they looked to breach the Saints’ defense.

As the clock ticked towards full time, the Saints took full charge of the game and ran the clock down.
