The 2022 succession politics has come at the cost of Mt Kenya region unity which has seen the formation of political alignments and looming supremacy battles.
The vocal Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has sent a warning to Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri just a few days after he was chased from his constituency for ‘propagating Tanga Tanga politics in the region.’
Ngunjiri claims that Kiunjuri has shifted roles from being a Cabinet Secretary to a Tanga Tanga politician from Laikipia doing politics in Nyeri.
In a long Facebook post castigating the CS, the angered MP argues that Kiunjuri has set a strategy to punish those against Tanga Tanga by collaborating with security forces in profiling them as ‘Mungiki ‘.
“Your efforts to incite the security forces against the youth in Nyeri by profiling them as ‘Mungiki’ are extremely despicable, to say the least. (And what of the women and Wazees who were also not happy with you in that event?) But fortunately, the government understands that you are acting as a politician in this case, not as a CS. Remember this is the same government that knows what you have been up to in your efforts to position yourself to be William Ruto’s Deputy President in 2022; including hosting various delegations of MCAs at your rural home!, read part of his post.
The beef between the two vocal leaders is coming just a few days after Ngunjiri got accused of being behind the chaos that erupted that saw CS Kiunjuri get chased from a meeting he was presiding on Saturday at Ngunjiri’s backyard.
Kiunjuri was presiding over the launch of Riamukurwi Water Project in Gatitu, Nyeri Town, when the unruly group, in the company of area MP Ngunjiri and Woman Representative Rahab Mukami, arrived and immediately took control of the programme.
The impasse lasted close to 30 minutes.
