Performing arts in Kenya is currently undergoing a transformation with various artists turning their talent and craft into a successful business venture.
Them days before the introduction of the digital world, musicians used to walk around selling copies of their music CDs as little as Ksh 20, most of then wrapped in polythene bags.

Now, music stars are being born out of YouTube as opposed to talent shows.

Local stars are making more money through digital singles’ sales through the digital platform than sales through hard copies, either through direct purchase or through royalties. Most urban music fans are buying music through downloads from YouTube and iTunes.

Before disappearing from the music scene years ago, the Longombas brothers took the Kenyan music scene by a storm with hits like Dondosa and Vuta Pumz.

Lovy and  Christian were introduced into the music world by their dad who happens to be an artist.

Back in the days, they ruled Kenya music industry,  later they moved to the United States. According to them, they felt they needed to explore a different way of making music, to think outside the box. They wanted to take our music beyond Kenya and Africa, to expand our horizons.

Besides, there was no use being popular with nothing to show for it.

“Our vision led us to move to America. It is important to note that pursuing a career is a journey, so people should not imagine that we would achieve success overnight”.

The brothers relocated to the states and very little was heard about them until the time news made rounds that Christian Longomba, one half of the duo was critically ill and had to undergo a brain surgery which he successfully underwent.

Christian underwent successful surgery to remove a brain tumor, after he had suffered a seizure on May 18th, 2015. Paramedics rushed him to the hospital where he was diagnosed with falx and parasagittal meningiomas.

According to his brother Lovy, neurosurgeons discovered a large tumor close to his sinuses.

“The doctors, after thorough tests, explained that the tumor had covered part of his parietal lobe and was mostly on the frontal lobe. After receiving his diagnosis, Christian launched into perhaps his most challenging endeavor – starting his journey in the treatment of his brain tumor,” said Lovy.

After the surgery, Christian decided to give his life to Christ.

Christian has every reason to smile after he got his health back.

He used to post motivational quotes before disappearing from the public scene.

As they say, change is part of life and it is inevitable. Lovy, on the other hand, traded music with the word of God.

I know many are asking where Lovy had disappeared to, as it turns out Lovy received salvation back in 2013 and has been ministering to Christian faithful since then.

“Fast forward to 2013, the lord positioned prophet Lovy in the valley of Los Angeles, CA and instructed him to begin a prayer group, in his living room, just as he was shown from his childhood visitation. Rooted in the prophetic, deliverance and healing, what began as a living room meeting has expanded to what would become revelation church,” he said

According to a video on his Youtube channel, Lovy became a prophet after receiving a message from the Lord.

Lovy has now moved to open a Prophetic school and is calling on Christian faithful to enroll at Ksh.30,000.

The former singer turned minister has a huge congregation which he prophesies to every Sunday.

“Everybody has a measure of the prophetic, but there are levels and dimensions in the prophetic. A prophet is born with the ability to prophesy and see. He is trained by God himself and is born with a prophetic spirit.” he said during one sermon.

Lovy’s change caught many by surprise, his famous uncle Awilo Longomba was astonished after he learned his nephew is now a pastor.

It’s clear that not only music run’s in the Longomba’s family but also preaching.

Two years ago, rumors went around that the Longomba was working on a TV series dubbed ‘The wives’.
