Death Toll Soars After Uganda Footballers’ Boat Capsizes

Uganda is in mourning after the death toll of footballers travelling through Lake Albert shot to 16.

The boat ferrying the football enthusiasts footballers is sais to have capsized some 20 minutes after leaving a docking area Sunday evening.

A heavy storm would begin after the boat left the dock carrying the footballers who were going to attend a foor=tball tournament.

Fishermen in the area who had sensed distress calls from the capsized boat would later rush to the accident scene from where they would rescue some 30 people alive.

Albertine Regional Police spokesperson Julius Hakiza confirmed the identities through a statement on their Twitter page on Tuesday.

“Six more bodies recovered have been identified as Ayiyorwotha Komakech (15years), Kyoshaba Bob (28yrs), Balikenda Kisembo (20yrs), Adinan Oscar (18yrs), Pirwoth Opek rwoth (20yrs) and Jango Filisido (26yrs)” posted Hakiza.

In 2016, some 30 footballers died in Lake Albert after their boat capsized as they were having a party.

in 2018, 35 people died on Uganda’s side of Lake Victoria after their boat capsized amid a huge storm.
