Wajir Residents Still in Darkness Days After DP Ruto Commissioned Generators

Residents are now angry over the blackout that has inconvenienced the business community especially and they are threatening to strike if the issue is not solved in due time.

The new generators were supposed to counter the power rationing and constant blackouts problem in the region. Residents are impatient over the slow installation of the generators citing that business and other activities in the area have been paralyzed as a result.

Wajir residents have been experiencing power outages over the years. This is mainly because it is not connected to the national grid. In this regard, the town would go for  weeks without electricity and sometimes even months, something the Deputy president was hoping to end. In the recent past, the main generator had broken down and was beyond repair by the Kenya Power Company.

The new power generator in the county at the same day Ruto  presided over a funds drive that managed to raise more than Sh61 million for the construction of a madrassa in Wajir.

Wajir is not connected to the national grid, so its power supply is undergirded by thermal generators that convert diesel into electricity. The main generator broke down in a fire accident in October, and its repair had been near impossible. Kenya Power restored the electricity supply briefly after emergency repairs, before the county plunged into darkness again, this time for two long months.
