Fighting Kibera Couple rendered more than 300 families homeless

Early this week more than 300 families in Laini Saba Kibera were rendered homeless after their houses were burnt down.

According to the reports, the fire was caused by fighting couple who got into a heated argument .

It is alleged that the couple engaged in a war of words that might have been physical, knocking down a burning stove that caused an explosion.

This resulted in a fire that burnt down 300 houses, leaving some of the residents homeless.

Area MCA, Cecilia Ayot confirmed the incident as she condemned the fight between the couple.

“There are many ways to solve problems but violence is not one of them. People should seek a third party instead of getting physical because we can see how a quarrel has damaged the livelihood of 300 homes,” she stated.

Ayot also urged landlords to leave adequate space between houses during construction to allow access by fire engines.

Reports indicated that the couple had not been officially named for fear of encountering mob violence from the angry residents.

A week ago, a fire was witnessed in Kilimani area, Nairobi, after Golden Spot restaurant went up in flames.

The fire is said to have started from the kitchen and quickly spread to the other parts of the restaurant.

Smoke was seen emanating from the establishment’s kitchen section on Sunday at about 2:45 pm.
