Jamaican Reggae Queen Etana has weighed in on the issue of female artists using sexuality to gain relevance.
The Singer says that from her opinion she does not see the need to be naked to prove anything.
Etana was in a music group before she became a solo artiste.
The ‘Weakness in me’ hit maker says It was exciting to be in the group although they used to wear almost naked clothes.
Women are generally so powerful and Etana says she did not need to be naked to prove anything.
At that point she decided to venture into reggae and do what she wanted.
Etana says what held her firm in the industry is knowing so well that she did not have to use her bottom half to propser.
The Reggae queen added that female artists do not have to go to a producer who wants to take advantage of them but can instead get their music to the world through other platforms.
The Singer was speaking in an exclusive interview on one of Kenya’s local TV stations ahead of her concert.
Etana says that her return to Kenya is because of the love for the people and the fact that they love her music.
The love she feels inside, everything about Kenya and the feeling that her love is being reciprocated.
Etana was brought up as the only girl in a family of 13 boys and she says that she grew up like a tom boy.
This upbringing she says prepared her to play amongst reggae boys and thrive in the industry.
There not so many women in reggae and Etana noted that she had to be tough to get where she is now.
The Singer has had several achievements including being a Grammy award nominee.
Apart from her music career, Etana says her fun time is being a mom but most of the time she is working.
She also added that one of the hardest thing is to be away from her children.
Growing up she always wanted to be the light in her family and that is the most that kept her going.
