A 19-year-old man from Katithini village, Misewani location, Kitui Central sub-county in Kitui County has killed his girlfriend aged 18 years using a panga in what authorities suspect was triggered by love gone sour.
Kitui Central OCPD Cecily Gatiri has confirmed the incident, saying that police found the body lying in a pool of blood on the bed this morning.
The suspect has already been arrested and is detained at Kitui police station while the body of the deceased has been taken to Kitui level 4 hospital morgue.
The incident comes in the wake of numerous murder cases being experienced in the country lately.
Suicides, murders and extreme violence have now become a trend in institutions of higher learning, and stakeholders have not been able to come up with solutions.
Dr. Elizabeth Ngozi, a therapist and lecturer at Tangaza University College, her University of Nairobi counterpart Charles Kimamo and Dr Margaret Kagwe, who is a consultant in counseling, blame these deaths on the breakdown of the societal structure and failure to nurture children in a way that prepares them for adult life.
