Gambling in recent time has become a lifestyle. Kenya has the highest number of gambling youth in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) and sports betting has become the most popular form of gambling
This has led to reduced productivity in school performances, jobs and fall out of close friends and partners. A person always keeps on repeating the same thing to achieve the same results.
Signs of gambling addiction include excessive borrowing to sustain the trend, the inability to stop, depression, involvement in criminal activities among other things.
Gambling has seriously affected addicts and they are likely to do the following:
1. Suicide thoughts
The gambler experiences suicidal thoughts due to losing a lot of money.
2. Neglecting bills
An addict will leave out their responsibilities such as taking care of their families. Instead, they will depend on the family to give them cash for gambling or they will borrow.
3. Anxiety and depression
The addict will always get upset if compelled on changed behaviour or increased use of money in unnecessary needs. The feeling of waiting for the results can be filled with anxiety and stress.
Psychologists say that gambling addiction is playing a role in psychological and social challenges.
