State now outlaws Marital Rape

Sexual harassment and assaults among couples is a global issue and authorities have started enacting laws to protect people in their marriages.

Minnesota governor has signed a bill that illegalizes marital rape among spouses.

In Kenya we have witnessed in the recent past brutal murder and heinous attacks among couples and lovers.

In the US twelve states — Connecticut, Idaho, Iowa, Michigan, Mississippi, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina and Virginia– have a loophole that legalizes marital rape.

In Nevada, being married to the victim is enough to protect someone from prosecution.

In Virginia, a husband can avoid criminal charges if he agrees to therapy.

In South Carolina, a married victim only has 30 days to report the rape and has to prove the threat of physical violence.

The state of Maryland also banned marital rape in 2017, where the law had initially required victims to prove there was the use of force.

We need to borrow a leaf as Kenyans!
