‘Miracle’ as Boeing 737 plunges into a river

Miracle as 143 passengers on board a Boeing 737-800 escaped narrowly after plane skids runway into a river on Friday night.

22 people had minor injuries but no critical injuries or deaths were reported in the plane that was travelling from Cuba to north Florida in the United States.

The incident occurred when arriving at Naval Air Station Jacksonville from Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, with 136 passengers and seven crew members slid off the runway into the St Johns River, an NAS Jacksonville news release said.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office posted on Twitter that a marine unit responded to assist. The plane was in shallow water and not submerged.

Miami Air International is a charter airline operating a fleet of the Boeing 737-800, different from the 737 MAX 8 aircraft that has been grounded following two fatal crashes involving that plane.

Federal investigators have began probing what caused the mishap.
