Could the Kenyan girl who amazed Ellen and the world have lied about everything for Ksh. 5 million ? That is the question many people are asking after realizing her interview was filled with fallacies that couldn’t be futher from the truth!
Achieng Agutu became a household name after she was re-united with her family whom she had not seen in two years and rewarded KSh 5 million by American TV show host Ellen DeGeneres.
Her emotional story of working multiple jobs to make ends meet, her parents selling land and taking loans to take her to school is what touched many Kenyans.
While many concluded that she came from a humble background from her confession, others cast doubt on her claim that she learned some words by watching The Ellen Show.
“I work one full-time job, my 9-5 as an admissions counselor at Holy Cross College. I babysit for two families, I wash people’s cars, I clean their houses, I am an Uber driver,” she said.
“I also teach English to international students and some of the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) students in the South Benda Area,” she added.
It did not take long for social media users to establish that Achieng had seen her parents in 2018 when they flew in for her graduation in May at Goshen College contrary to her claims.
Feeling deceived, they were left with no option than to dig up the young woman’s background using her social media pages and her Instagram shows a lavish life that involves globe trotting.
Achieng has traveled to Qatar in Doha, Machu Picchu in Peru, Bali in Indonesia, Tulum in Mexico and even Yves Saint Laurent’s Private Residence in Marrakech, Morocco.
The 21-year-old is also a blogger and founder of ‘No Ordinary Noire’ a fashion, beauty and lifestyle blog that aims to showcase the beauty of women of colour.
She pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Advertising, and Applied Communication at Goshen College in Indiana.
Before joining Goshen College, her Linkedin profile indicates that she attended Richmond High School, Indiana and the prestigious Braeburn International School.
