Mourinho brands Messi ‘the God of Football’

Following his brace heroics in the 3-0 win over Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, Lionel Messi has earned a new name from Jose Mourinho who hailed him as ‘the God of Football’.

With the game seemingly headed for a narrow Barcelona win after Luis Suarez netted in the first half, up stepped Messi who netted twice in the final 15 minutes to put the Catalans in the driving seat. Despite working for Barcelona in the early stages of his career, Mourinho was at loggerheads with the club as a Real Madrid and Inter Milan manager.

Speaking as a guest on Russia Today, Mourinho lauded Liverpool and revealed a new name for Messi, “Liverpool was brave in the approach. I don’t think in the past 20 years many teams in the Champions League beat Barcelona in ball possession in the Champions League.

“God of Football made it completely different. Of course [Barca] have a good team, phenomenal players, but that player is absolutely incredible.”
