Two Nairobi MCAs deny receiving Ksh 1M bribe

Two Members of the County Assembly (MCA) have been released on Ksh 1 M bond and alternative cash bail of Ksh 500K each.

David Njilithia Mberia and Jared Okoth Okode who are MCAs of Langata/Karen and Mathare Northwards are accused of receiving a bribe from Samuel Maina Kiragu one of the owners of Kiragu Waichahi School. who passed away.

Mr. Mberia was also charged individually that on April 25, 2019, at City Hall lounge, he requested for financial advantage of Ksh.1.7 million from Mr. Kiragu.

The two, who are members of the Culture and Social Services Committee, were arrested on Friday for allegedly demanding the bribe from the businessman to allegedly influence the outcome of an inquiry that was to be carried out by the committee.

The two MCAs denied having received Ksh 1M bribe to influence inquiry at the Natural and Cultural Service Committee at the County Assembly.

A pre-trial will be done on 20th May 2019.

Former Nairobi Governor Hearing

Elsewhere, former Nairobi Governor Dr. Evans Kidero and 16 others were accused of irregular payment of 68M to Wachira Mburu, Mwangi and Advocates.

The former Nairobi Governor appeared for a plea-taking but was denied bail as the DPP cited interference of witnesses and absconding of trial as reasons to deny him bail.

The accused persons will remain in custody at EACC and Kilimani police station.
