Firebrand Embakasi MP Babu Owino recently described the Luo community as people who speak the language of the gods. Yes, Luo is a software, it is an international language.
Unfortunately, these special people are branded as the face of opposition in Kenyan politics since independence. There is no time that Luos have been in government apart from a brief period between 2003 and 2004.
“We have been in the opposition for decades and there is nowhere written that we must be in the opposition. We cannot be doing things the same way every electioneering period and expect different results,” says Nyando MP Jared Okelo.
But how can the community get rid of this ugly tag called opposition? The answer lies in Raila Odinga.
Nobody hates Luos more than the former Prime Minister. The community has paid bitterly for fighting Raila’s battles. I once read a story of a woman who was raped in Kibera in the 2007 Post Election violence, and also in 2017.
Luos have paid the ultimate price fighting for the Odingas. Last year, he went for the handshake without consulting anyone. Since then, there is nothing that Nyanza has benefited from the handshake.
It is time for Luos to know their real enemy. Raila does not have your interests at heart. And from the look of things he is taking you to the opposition in 2022 again.
Raila has been very vocal in criticizing DP William Ruto about the run away corruption in government.
But he does not say the same when ODM governors steal public funds. Homa Bay governor Cyprian Awiti and his Siaya counterpart Cornel Rasanga have a zero development record but he will never criticize them.
Dear Luos, a time has come to say no to the old man. We need new leaders to rise.
