We humans like to think of ourselves as the pinnacle of intelligence.
We walk around boasting our whims; mistreating the animals around us as we slaughter them for our amusement.
If that’s not enough, we have become so intelligent to the point that we enslave ourselves with pieces of paper commonly known as money.
And to even laugh at our own faces, some of us steal these large sums of our money right underneath our noses and ridicule the remaining lot of us as we languish in poverty (sounds too familiar??)
Is this really intelligence or mediocrity?
You’d be surprised to discover that some sections of the animal kingdom, and some animals, in particular, perform much better than we do in basic comprehension tests and problem-solving.

Ants
Did you know that ants started farming more than 50 million years ago? Which is really funny because we like to claim ourselves as the pioneers of farming.
In fact, ants have been living in societies for millions of years, before even the basic human had thought of inviting a friend over for brunch!
They work as a unit, and rarely get into fights with each other. Can the same be said about you and your family?
Crows
They might be a nuisance in Coastal towns such as Mombasa and Malindi, but crows are hands down the most intelligent birds in the world.
Being unafraid of human presence and with the baffling inborn intelligence, they are smart enough to make trouble over humans.
The tricks that crows use to find food and build nests reflects the unmatchable intelligence of this species of bird.
Which is no surprise considering they have the largest brain of any bird species in the world!
Pigs
Pigs might make the sweetest sausages for your plate of chips and soda during lunch hour, but there’s more to these snorting creatures than meets the eye!
For starters, pigs are hands down one of the most social animals in the Animal Kingdom. They play together, sleep together, eat together…and are also infamously known for having orgys. Yep, it’s that creepy.
In terms of language? Pigs use 20 different types of vocalizations to communicate each other.
Even a newborn pig can understand what the sound actually meant produces by its mother!
Octopuses
Oh, you though land animals were the only creatures with a big brain? Here are some facts about the octopuses brain that will just terrify you:
Octopuses are the only invertebrates that use tools.
An older octopus can teach a younger octopus new habits
They have the ability to reshape their bodies easily to avoid predators
Octopuses use the shells of other animals to create a shield over their layers. And your son can’t even close the front door when he gets home from school!
And of course, dogs
Why, who could forget man’s best friend?
The average dog has the intelligence of that of a 2-year-old-baby. Something that even some of our local politicians can’t match.
Their sense of smell is unparalleled, and they are one of the few animals that have a great understanding of the human world.
If you train a puppy from day one, there’s no denying that you’ll have a friend for life!
