What Man City Boss Guardiola Said When Asked If He Had Been Offered Man Utd’s Paul Pogba

A deal to take Pogba from Old Trafford to Manchester City would be one of the most sensational in the history of English football.

Red Devils fans were furious when Carlos Tevez made the switch in 2009 – along with the infamous ‘Welcome to Manchester’ billboard put up by City – and a similar reaction would greet Pogba doing likewise this summer.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s derby between the Manchester rivals, Pep Guardiola was asked if the midfielder had been offered to his side amid reports he wants to move on.

“No, no, no,” he replied. “Definitely not.

“He’s a player for Man United.”

Real Madrid have also been strongly linked with Pogba, who has experienced a drop-off in form that has embodied Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s troubles following the manager’s incredible start in the dugout.

There were sensational reports last year that Pogba had been offered to City but in the end he stayed put at Old Trafford.

The Frenchman registered five goals and four assists in Solskjaer’s opening six matches but was one of many poor performers in Sunday’s 4-0 loss at Everton.

The Old Trafford faithful will be expecting a reaction to that performance when welcoming City to the red half of Manchester.

In an attempt to rally his troops, Solskjaer warned that Guardiola’s men will try every trick in the book to win the game, including cynical fouls.

However, the City boss refuted such claims.

“Did he say that? With 65% or 70% possession, how do we do that?” said Guardiola.

“I don’t like it. My side is not built like that, not at all.

“In 10 seasons as a manager, I never prepared for a game thinking about these things. Never.

“In football, you sometimes do that because the actions are so fast. But I never said we should do it to punish an opponent or cancel them.

“Maybe after the game you can ask him in the press conference.”

City know that beating Manchester United will present a huge boost to their title chances, with four wins from their final four games guaranteeing first-place ahead of Liverpool.
