Fans and football enthusiasts react to former Mathare and Harambee stars player ban from football activities

Former Mathare and Harambee Stars defender George Owino has been banned from all football-related activities for 10 years and fined KSh1.5m by FIFA over match-fixing.

It is going to be the first international ban for a Kenyan player. Owino has been under investigation for the wrongdoing ranging from 2009 to 2011


The FIFA Disciplinary Committee found nine individuals eight players/former players as well as one players’ agent guilty of having been involved in match manipulation in violation of art. 69 par. 1 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (Unlawfully influencing match results).

Mr. Karlon Murray, Trinidad and Tobago, Mr Keyeno Thomas, Trinidad and Tobago, Mr Hellings Mwakasungula, Malawi, Mr Ibrahim Kargbo, Sierra Leone, Mr Kudzanai Shaba, Zimbabwe, Mr Séïdath Tchomogo, Benin and Mr Leonel Duarte, Cuba have also been banned from all sporting activities.
