Just what is happening in Kenya? Cases of couples killing each other all in the name of love have lately been on the rise with a number of Kenyans now afraid to even get into serious relationships for fear of the same.
Even before the curtains could fall after the burial of slain Moi University Student Ivy Wangechi, another case of relationships-related deaths has been reported and this time in Likoni.
Likoni Deputy OCS is reported to have shot dead his girlfriend before later turning the gun on himself and taking his own life.
Joab Omondi, the said Deputy Officer Commanding Station gunned down the woman, identified in police report as Ms Peninah Kaimenyi, at Lovely Bar in Mtongwe following a quarrel on Thursday night.
According to a number of witnesses, Mr. Omondi was a regular customer in the bar and was well known by the bar attendants.
He had been served by Ms Kaimenyi when he picked a quarrel with her at 11.40pm.
They then got into a heated verbal exchange before an angry Mr. Omondi unleashed his Ceska pistol, serial number G5969, pointed it at the defenceless woman, pulled the trigger and shot her in the head without blinking.
Ms Kaimenyi was rushed to Coast General Hospital for treatment. She was however not lucky as she succumbed to the gun shot.
Police have launched investigations into the murder. Ms Kaimenyi’s nody has also been moved to the Coast General Hospital Mortuary.
Mr. Omondi’s pistol was recovered with 11 bullets.
