‘We are slaves in our own country’ Uproar over Housing Levy

Do you think it is time for Kenyans to go the Sudan way and remove all the despots from power? Is it time for a revolution?

That is the question on everyone’s lips as the government moves to introduce the controversial housing levy tax.

A notice published on local dailies, has directed employers to deduct 1.5% from every employee’s basic salary and submit it to the government for Jubilee’s affordable housing master plan.

And now Kenyans are questioning the rationale behind this mega project, especially for those employees who already have houses.

Some people believe this is another way that the government wants to get more money to steal.

“I can’t imagine how William Ruto is happy. A new chopper, a new hotel on the way.” Said Michael Ngua on Facebook.

“I will build my own house ata kama niya matope, my comfort isn’t my neighbors comfort.” These are the words of MC Joan.

“its like we are back at the times of Israelites, we are slaves in our own country , may the Lord rescue us ,, Kenya is for the rich.” Mary Deniss said.

“It’s totally unacceptable why force someone to participate by compulsory deduction???? Am not getting this issues of jubilee projects.”

From the reactions, Kenyans are really mad. But some people are celebrating this, asking those who voted for Jubilee twice to expect houses.

‘There is no way we can complain Jubilee Government has failed us, and at the same time we replace Uhuru with Ruto, that is the greatest mess ever.’ said Duke Ngei.
