Sergio Busquets believes that Barcelona ‘reached their pinnacle’ against Manchester United in the 2011 Champions League final.
Barça were viewed as one of the best club sides ever under Pep Guardiola, stunning the world with a completely dominant performance over United at Wembley.
Busquets recalls plenty of happy memories from that night and hopes the current Blaugrana side can repeat a similar achievement this season.
“It was our best performance in the Pep Guardiola era,” he told the Daily Mail. “It was the pinnacle of everything we were achieving at the time.
“It was a period when our success seemed at its most emphatic and that game was the perfect demonstration.
“The idea of how we wanted to play and our superiority on the pitch was clear. It was the ultimate highpoint.”
“Sometimes you can feel that frustration from the other team when you are so on top,” the midfielder added.
“That recognition from them afterwards – and we are talking about great players and a coach like Sir Alex Ferguson – it’s the highest praise you can receive.
“Our goal this time is the same. To win, to win well and progress into the semi-final.”
