We all know that menstrual pads are for periods but what about the pantyliner?

A pantyliner is an absorbent piece of material used for feminine hygiene. It is worn on the gusset of a woman’s panties.

Some uses include absorbency for daily vaginal discharge, light menstrual flow, tampon, and menstrual cup backup, spotting, post-intercourse discharge, and urinary incontinence.

All of us are different, so here are how different women use panty liners, how often they wear them for, and what they use them for.

The “everyday” liner
Many women use panty liners every day. Why? Well, it’s quite common to have some discharge during the day, which can make things a bit damp and uncomfortable. A panty liner is a great way to maintain a fresh and clean feeling throughout the day, changing it every 3-5 hours.

Light incontinence

Lots of women also panty liners as protection for stress incontinence. “Stress incontinence” is a type of urinary incontinence that can occur with physical exertion such as sneezing, jumping or laughing. It’s extremely common, especially if you have had a vaginal birth, so it’s nothing to feel embarrassed about.

Lighter period days

Some women like to use a panty liner rather than a menstrual pad for the lighter days of her period. A panty liner can give you a bit of protection without using a full sanitary pad, and many women find it provides more than adequate protection. We really like this idea, as it saves you wearing and using more than you really need.

With a tampon or menstrual cup
Tampons and moon cups are great, but occasionally there is a risk of leaking so some ladies feel reassured by wearing a panty liner for “just-in-case” protection during their period.
