Manchester United get Victor Lindelof boost after fixture absence

Lindelof is set to travel to Wolves

Victor Lindelof will be included in the Manchester United travelling squad for the Wolves game after he was not involved in the win over Watford.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer clarified Lindelof was not injured for the visit of Watford on Saturday and sat out the game due to ‘personal issues’. Lindelof’s wife Maja gave birth to their first child recently and revealed on her personal blog complications had developed with her pregnancy.

Doctors had to deliver the baby three weeks earlier than the due date and Lindelof pulled out of the Sweden squad for their European Championship qualifying win over Sweden and draw with Norway.

Lindelof received what he described as ‘sick’ threats amid speculation he had declared himself unavailable due to the omission of close friend and former Manchester City striker John Guidetti from Janne Andersson’s squad, though Andersson denied that was the cause behind Lindelof’s absence.

Lindelof has started 24 Premier League games this season – almost twice as many as last term – and is a frontrunner to win the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award. Given United could switch to a back three to match Wolves at Molineux on Tuesday night, Lindelof’s possible return is timely.

“He’ll travel,” Solskjaer stressed. “It was a decision we made [not to play him against Watford]. He’d not trained as well as he should have, and that was the reason. And Phil [Jones] had come through his programme anyway.”

Wolves held United to a draw at Old Trafford in September and ejected United from the FA Cup in the quarter-finals last month. Wolves have beaten Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea this season and have also taken a point off top six sides Manchester City and Arsenal.
