Who are you to lecture father Raila, Junior tells off Rutto

Raila Odinga Junior tells off Isaac Ruto over claims the ODM leader has absconded Opposition role

The son of ODM leader Raila Odinga has laughed off claim by former Bomet governor, Isaac Rutto, that Raila should resume the role as the official Opposition leader.

Junior appeared to wonder who the former governor thinks he is to tell the ODM leader what role he should be playing in the country.

Reacting to the remarks by Ruto, Junior who has increasingly become vocal on political and socio-economic issues affecting Kenya, asked if the former governor was in a position to tell his father which role to play.

“Lol, can Isaac Ruto tell Raila anything on where he should play a role” he posed in a tweet.

The Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party leader had a few days earlier called on the former prime minister to resume his duty as Opposition leader to keep the national government in check and Jubilee leaders on their toes.

He raised concern over weak Opposition in the country to hold the government accountable and urged the ODM leader not to abandon his role even as he continues to pursue the unity agenda.

Ruto argued although there is need for political leaders to preach peace and unite Kenyans, there is also need to check on excesses by the government and advice where necessary. “This country should be united and Kenyans embrace each other socially and economically, but the only issue we have is that we are used to being monitored to serve in a given office,” he said on Sunday, March 31.

The former chair of the Council of Governors (CoG) believes Raila will serve Kenyans better if he remains the firebrand Opposition leader he used to be prior to the March 9, 2018 handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The handshake was meant to end political bickering and unite Kenyans following the disputed and chaotic August 2017 polls.

Since the peace agreement, Raila who was previously a big critic of the Jubilee administration stopped frequent attacks against the government in the spirit of the building bridges initiative.
