On 15th November 2018, Gor Mahia fans were shocked with news that Dylan Kerr, a double KPL winning coach had resigned from the club. This was just before the beginning of a new season.
In the aftermath of the chaos that followed the Kerr’s resignation, it was later revealed that the coach had stayed for many months without water and electricity in his house. He had to shower in a swimming pool and walk to Camp Toyoyo for training.
This was revealed by non other than fierce club official and whistle blower Judith ‘Nyangi’. Judith has been the Organising Secretary of Gor Mahia since 2016.
In September, the firebrand politician accused club chairman Ambrose Rachier of pocketing sh 3 million from the sale of Godfrey Walusimbi to South African side Kaizer Chiefs.
“The chairman should be honest. On what grounds did he receive Sh3 million from Walusimbi, and why is it so hard to put every transaction of the club on the table.” She told a local media house.
Judith Nyangi has risen from the shadows to take up a central position at Gor Mahia, a place that not very many women can survive.
She is hated and loved in equal measures. In August last year, she accused the club of withholding player salaries and allowances. There was even a suggestion that a Paybill should be created to help players who had been kicked out of their houses.
She has several pictures on social media hanging out with Gor Mahia players. According to insiders, players love her because she is the only one with their interests at heart.
But some insiders within the club don’t like her approach to issues, they think she is so Ghettoish. The club chair Rachier threatened to sue her for defamation sometimes last year.
The club will be adopting a new constitution after a special AGM set for 9th July. The post of Organising Secretary is one of the eight positions that will be scraped off going forward.
If adopted, the new constitution will also limit elective posts to members who have at least a Diploma in any field.
According to insiders, this was meant to lock out Nyangi, who has set her eyes for the Treasurer’s position currently held by Sally Bollo.
But Nyangi shocked Gor Mahia fans over the weekend when she revealed that she has diploma from the 90s and supports the new constitution.
“I got my diploma in 90s. I support the draft constitution fully. ” She posted on a popular Gor Mahia Facebook Group.
Even though she didn’t reveal what she studied, she revealed in another post that she went to Heshima Primary school between 1982 and 1989 before joining Our Lady Plains View Secondary school between 1990 and 1993.
This means that Rachier and co will have to look for other means to get rid of iron lady.
Away from club politics, Nyangi is an avid supporter of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko. She vigorously campaigned for him in the 2017 elections despite most club fans being key supporters of Evans Kidero.
It is not clear id this would affect her chances of being the first Gor Mahia secretary going into the new era.
Some Gor Mahia fans have also not forgiven her after she was pictured in a Kariobangi Sharks Jersey early this year, during a time when the club looked like it was struggling.
