Former Embu MCA arrested, daughter shot in Kidnapping saga

In Makutano Trading Centre , Kirinyaga County, an alleged kidnapping of a a 22-year-old man is reported to have taken place in mid day and the father of the man was rang and asked to pick him up.

When the fathers man arrived, he came with the police and when the police spotted four local residents who had been sent, the officers are said to have opened fire injuring former nominated Embu MCA Teresia Njeri’s daughter and one other person as the rest escaped unhurt.

Juliet Waithera and Bernard Kariithi, together former nominated Embu MCA Teresia Njeri were accused of abducting a 22-year-old man and holding him hostage for hours.

However, the three claim that they rescued the young man from a mob that was attacking him on allegations that he was a criminal.

Njeri claimed that they took him away from the mob and held him at her house as she tried to contact the man’s father.

“When we rescued the man, we made sure he was safe, later I rang his father who lives at Igembe in Meru and asked him to pick up his son at my house,” Njeri said.

“At around 4 am, his father called and informed me that he had arrived at the village. I then sent out four people among them my daughter to meet him at the nearby road but surprisingly he was accompanied by police officers,” she said.

On spotting the four local residents, the officers are said to have opened fire injuring Njeri’s daughter and one other person as the rest escaped unhurt.

The former MCA was arrested and taken to Makutano Police Station but was later released on Ksh.10,000 pending to be charged in court.

Njeri denied the kidnapping claims adding that the police officers had framed them up.

“When the officers knew they had blundered they claimed that they had shot kidnappers who were armed with pangas. They then came to my home and took me away to the station for questioning,” Njeri said.
