Liverpool’s Winning Premier League Title Will Be Compared to Arsenal Invincibles

Liverpool are at the wheels and this season seems to be the best chance for them to clinch the Premier League trophy in 29 years.

They’re still battling the formidable Manchester City, though, who sit just two points behind Liverpool with a game in hand.

That game in hand, however, is against both Liverpool’s and City’s arch rivals Manchester United.

Previous great Premier League seasons like Jose Mourinho’s first in charge of Chelsea, and Sir Alex Ferguson’s years with United, have been lauded for their steel and mental toughness.

And Savage believes that if Liverpool were to end the season as title winners, it would sit on the same level as another special Premier League campaign.

“As an achievement, it would rank in the same league as Arsenal’s Invincibles of 2004,” he said.

“If they manage to hold off Manchester City, one of the greatest teams we’ve ever seen in English football.

“It would be an astonishing prize for a club who have not won the title since 1990.”

Savage went on to note that the only triumph that would come above it is Claudio Ranieri’s famous win with Leicester in 2015/16.

The Foxes, who Savage played for between 1997-2002, overcame seemingly insurmountable 5000/1 odds to win beat the usual top six to Premier League glory.

“Jurgen Klopp will pull off the greatest title triumph of the Premier League era, apart from Leicester’s 5,000-1 miracle, if he ends 29 years of hurt at Liverpool,” he added.

“Liverpool have been absolute warriors in the title race.”

Liverpool come up against Tottenham this Sunday in a huge clash that could determine both teams’ seasons.

Both sides are also still in the Champions League, where Liverpool face Porto and Spurs take on City.
