Bravo! Hellen Obiri becomes first woman to win World Outdoor title

Kenyan Hellen Onsando Obiri make history of becoming the first woman to have won individual senior titles on the track outdoors, indoors and in cross country.

“I am so grateful for the victory. I didn’t know I would win because the race was tough. I used my mind and I also wanted to be patient. The Ethiopians were string in the hills, it was so tough for me. I only wanted to do one cross country and get a medal. I don’t think I will go on to do another cross country; this is enough for me,” Obiri, still grinning widely from the victory said. After the race

Obiri threw down the gauntlet early, showing that she was in for business. She came into the race with superb form in cross country having won the Engoibar Cross Country in Spain before returning home to clinch the Kenya Defense Forces and National titles.

Hellen has just add the world cross country title to her collection after wining the women’s 10km gold in the 2019 World Cross Country Championships in Aarhus, Denmark on Saturday.

Hellen Onsando Obiri (born 13 December 1989) is a Kenyan middle-distance runner and the current 5000 metres champion after winning gold in the 2017 World Championships in London.

She is also the silver medalist from the 2016 Summer Olympics over the same distance (5000 metres).

She won 3000 metres distance at 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Istanbul, Turkey.

 Obiri holds the National Record for the 5000 metres event.
