Meet The iron lady who insulted Dictator Museveni’s Mother and Wife

“What sort of malice plays in the heart of a woman who sleeps with a man who finds money for millions of bullets, billions of bribes and uncountable ballots to stuff into boxes but she cannot ask him to prioritise sanitary pads for poor schoolgirls? She is no Mama — she is just Janet!”

These are the words of Ugandan firebrand activist Stella Nyanzi, directed towards the first lady who also doubles up as the Ugandan Education Minister.

Dr. Nyanzi was responding to the first lady’s claims that the government
lacked the funds to fulfill the president’s election promise of providing sanitary pads to school girls.

Janet Museveni is not like her dictator husband who uses police to harass the opposition. The first lady said she had forgiven the activist.

But who is this daring woman, with the guts to stand up and insult a first lady?

Stella embodies the terms “outspoken” and “fearless”. She is a Ugandan academic, mother, feminist, a forthright activist and a leading voice in the women’s rights movement.

She was arrested in November, this time for insulting the President’s
 deceased mother, Esteri Kokundeka.

It is alleged that in September, through numerous posts on Facebook, she Museveni’s mother to come take her son away since he’s torturing and murdering Ugandans and looting the country’s resources. Dr. Nyanzi also attacked Esteri for raising and looking away as her son continued to cause suffering to Ugandans.

She has been in remand at Luzira Prison since then on charges of
of cyber harassment and offensive communication against Museveni.

She recently revealed in court that she had miscarried her baby while in custody. Kenyans are now demanding that Museveni releases her unconditionally.
