Why Moses Kuria is not eligible to vie for presidency

Not only is the political ground in Kenya over the 2022 general elections heated up but its developing into a dramatic circus as well.

Controversial Gatundu South Member of parliament Moses Kuria took Kenyans by surprise recently when he officially released his 2022 presidential campaign posters.He shared o Face Book how his posters will look like.

He also shared the campaign slogan he’ll use to popularize his bid. The slogan states ‘Kazi na Pesa”. 

According to information on the poster, Kuria who is currently in the Jubilee party, will contest the presidential seat on a Democratic Party of Kenya (DPK) ticket.

Sadly though, in a statement rebutting Kuria’s move, the party asked Kenyans to disregard Kuria’s allusion that he was the party’s presidential candidate.

His poster move has drawn the condemnation of the party, which has said the legislator is not eligible to vie for the presidency on its ticket.

“DP has an elaborate process on how to nominate its presidential candidate with a requirement that any presidential candidate for DP must be a DP life member, of which Kuria is not,” Deputy Secretary General Wambugu Nyamu said.

DP National Chairman Esau Kioni said that the move was a surprise for DP and affirmed that the MP had not contacted the party, neither was he a member.

“It hit us on the face that someone who is not a member of the party had declared himself as a candidate in our party.”
