United announced Solskjaer‘s appointment on a three-year contract on Thursday morning after weeks of speculation.
The Norwegian has enjoyed a stellar return to the club he won nine major trophies with during his playing career.
And Woodward will be eager for him to replicate the era of success he was part of under the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson.
The United executive vice-chairman revealed after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s appointment why he has been chosen to lead the Red Devils.
Manchester United‘s impressive performances and record since December, his vast experience and desire to pass on the club’s values have all worked in Solskjaer‘s favour.
“Since coming in as caretaker manager in December, the results Ole has delivered speak for themselves,” Woodward said.
“More than just performances and results, Ole brings a wealth of experience, both as a player and as a coach, coupled with a desire to give young players their chance and a deep understanding of the culture of the club.
“This all means that he is the right person to take Manchester United forward.
“I want to thank Ole and the coaching team for everything they have done so far and congratulate him on this richly deserved appointment.
“The fans and everyone at the club are behind him as he looks to take us where we need to be and build the next stage of our history.”
Solskjaer has been assisted by United fan favourite Mike Phelan since returning to Old Trafford back in December.
Michael Carrick, Kieran McKenna and Mark Dempsey have also backed up Solskjaer, along with goalkeeping coach Emilio Alvarez.
