Sonko issues stern warning to rogue city askaris endangering passengers lives

Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has finally responded after County askaris set a matatu full of passengers on fire.

In a statement on his official Facebook page, an angry Sonko said that stern action would be taken against the rogue askaris for throwing teargas canisters at innocent passengers.

The Governor went on to apologize to the passengers saying that it was wrong for the officers to throw teargas after they had been provoked by Matatu operators.

“Hawa watakiona. Why throw tear gas canister to passengers when provoked by psv operators. My apologies kwa wale wametupiwa tear gas,” said Mike Sonko.

The Governor’s words came after county askaris threw teargas canisters inside an Umoja bound matatu, setting it on fire.

According to the driver of the matatu Mr. Patrick Kariuki, the county askaris took the ignition keys from him before they started beating him. They thereafter called for reinforcement officers who came and arrested him together with the conductor.

The driver narrated that moments later, askaris believed to be from the county then came and hurled teargas inside the vehicle that was carrying passengers.

The driver maintained that he had not done any wrong.
