Newly Crowned Miss Maseno Speaks Up, Days After Facing Fierce Criticism on Social Media

Hours after being declared the winner of the 2019/2020 Miss Maseno crown, online bullies and merciless social media critics descended on Aileen Audrey Oketch, a second year Textile, Apparel & Fashion Merchandising student at Maseno University.

The trolls argued that she was not fit for the crown given her dark appearance compared to her counterparts in similar tertiary institutions.

Well, the model seems not to be bothered by the criticisms as she insists she beat all other contestants squarely and is ready to take her modelling career beyond Maseno University.

Having started loving fashion at young age, Aileen commenced her professional runway modelling in 2013.

Winning the Miss Maseno 2019/2020 crown isn’t her first time flooring her competitors, in December 2013, the lass participated in the Miss Rusinga and was declared the winner.

In regards to the just ended controversial Miss Maseno contest, Aileen confirms that she had to take part in order to prove that modeling is beyond skin color and ordinary looks.

“I PARTICIPATED IN THAT CONTEST NOT ONLY BECAUSE I HAVE GOOD PLANS WITH MY TITLE AS THE CURRENT MISS MASENO BUT ALSO TO KILL THE PERCEPTION OF MODELLING BEING ALL ABOUT SKIN COLOR AND PERHAPS LOOKS” SHE SAID

She plans to propel a mentor-ship program aimed at developing self esteem among women and build courage in girl child to go against all odds to grab available opportunities.

Meanwhile, following the extreme bashing she got, many have come out to condemn body shamers.

A number of corporates have also vowed to help Aileen pursue her modeling career further.
