‘Tuuliza nani,’ MP Chepkut tells off Orengo

Many Members of Parliament have come out in to defend Deputy President William Ruto following graft cases and threats of impeachment.

Ainabkoi MP William Chepkut lashed out at Siaya Senator James Orengo over the latter’s threat to institute impeachment motion against Deputy President William Ruto.

The Jubilee politician in a Twitter post asked Orengo to fix graft-riddled Siaya county leadership and failed devolution in Luo land before thinking of kicking Ruto out of the government.

The Directorate of Public Prosecution had in 2018 approved arrest of Governor Cornel Rasanga on allegations of taxpayers’ money involving purchase of air tickets for family members and illegal tendering.

The governor later bragged how a simple phone call to ODM leader Raila Odinga saved him from the prosecutor’s dragnet.

“James Orengo comes from a county with one of the most corrupt and incompetent administrations headed by Cornel Rasanga, a non-achiever who leaves Siaya in 2022 worse than he found it. I would first make devolution work in Luo land before thinking about ousting Ruto,” Chepkut claimed.

Even though Article 150 (1) (b) (iii) of the current Constitution of Kenya states a deputy president may be removed from office for gross misconduct, the senator disclosed he would ensure the DP is out before 2022.

According to the Senate Minority leader, corruption allegations and claims of insubordination particularly rubbishing anti-graft agencies’ commitment are enough grounds for the motion.

β€œThe list is too long. And this is not about what he has been linked to, but what he has also admitted. For example, the hotel next to the airport, the Muteshi land and now these two dams where there has been an allegation supported by facts that KSh 21 billion was lost, but he (Ruto) is talking about KSh.7 billion,” the senator claimed.

However, politicians allied to Ruto have sensationally claimed Orengo is being used by Raila whom they said is eyeing the deputy president’s seat.
