Broke Arsenal Determined to Sign Barcelona Star Ahead of Man United

Arsenal is determined to come back next season with a squad that is strong enough to compete against their age-long rivals in the Premier League.

Barcelona are in advanced talks with 19-year-old starlet Matthijs de Ligt which would leave the future of Umtiti uncertain.

United are ready to raid for the France international with a new centre-back high on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s agenda.

But Mundo Deportivo claim Arsenal are ready to battle their rivals for Umtiti’s signature as well.

Raul Sanllehi, Arsenal’s director of football, was instrumental in helping Barca sign the defender back in 2016.

Umtiti has cooled talk go him leaving the Nou Camp though.

When asked last week if he would be staying at the club, he simply responded saying ‘yes’.

Umtiti has only made 10 appearances for Barcelona all season long because of a knee injury.

The Catalan club are reportedly ready to sell Umtiti in order to fund their move for De Ligt.

The Ajax starlet has impressed this season in helping the Dutch side to the quarter-finals of the Champions League and knocking out holders Real Madrid in the process.

Former Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has told De Ligt to move to Bayern Munich over Barcelona though.

He explained: “Bayern must get De Ligt, he is absolutely a player for Munich.

“I would advise him to go there, although I always said that he would be a good match for Juventus.

“Bayern play in central defence with Niklas Sule, Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng, but it is not clear if Hummels and Boateng will remain.

“So, there would be room for De Ligt. The boy is a great talent, has a lot of quality.”
